Empigard Plating Co.is a Cleveland based metal finishing company specializing in cadmium, zinc, and zinc-tin plating and mechanical finishing.

The Company is the originator of the Empigard® process, which is an organic polymer coating which is applied over a chromated surface which greatly increases the corrosion resistance, lubricity and torque tension performance of plated parts. Empigard also has been used successfully in applications over stainless steel.

Representative customers are from the automotive, tractor-trailer, department of defense, computer and construction industries. We also serve a segment of the environmental control industry by plating bag house superstructures for pollution control devices and providing a coating of Empigard® which gives significantly greater life to parts exposed to the heat and smoke going up industrial stacks.

Empigard operates out of a 60,000 square feet building. Its production capacity includes the following:


  • cadmium automatic barrel line
  • mechanical finishing line (zinc, zinc-tin, cadmium)
  • cadmium rack line (up to 14 feet lengths)
  • zinc rack line (up to 12 feet lengths)
  • hand plating line (zinc and cadmium)
  • hand barrel dipping (chromating) line <
  • Empigard dipping line
  • high volume batch baking ovens (stress relief for hydrogen embrittlement)

    • Empigard can handle large continuous production runs in its automatic barrel lines, as well as small highly specialized jobs in its manual hand line.
